i would try hand washing it with some dreft and hang it out to dry

Gentle cycle on your washing machine and tumble dry low!

I still use regular detergent, but not a full cup like it says to use.

my daughter recieved a quilt from the NICU too, also my grandma has made her 4 quilts, and my husband and I have recieved several from her too (its her hobby) she prewashes all the material she uses in the washer and dryer, actually we visited her today and she gave my daughter another homemade quilt , and she said you can wash it just like anything else it can go in the wash and dryer.
i guess if you are worried you can lay it flat to dry, but i have washed all my homemade quilts several times and have had no problems with any of them

the best way is to hand wash it gently in a tub or large sink.

if you cant or dont want to hand wash it, put it in the washer on the most gentle cycle.

Hand wash it using Dreft. It’s a gentle soap created just for babies. I had a preemie in the NICU for 4 a half months. I always used Dreft and never had a problem. Just wanted to extra careful on delicate skin.

Dreft is found in the baby department of most stores.

wash in a hypoallergenic woolite laundry detergent seperate in cold cold water by itself in a laundry bag. tumble dry on low or hang dry away from rooms with allergens

wash it in a gental cleaner, by hand if possible and then air dry.
